Leitrim Organic Farmers Co Op with the assitance of Teagasc and Western Organic Network are running two events in order to promote local organic producers during organic week. The first held in the Hodson Bay Hotel on 15th September @7pm will feature Barlows Organic Farm, a mixed enterprise of poultry, pigs cattle and sheep.The Tattie Hoaker, with a shop and wholesale organic fruit and vegetable business. Beechlawn Organic farm from Ballinasloe will be represented by local organic grower Paraic Fahy and Clanwood Farm from Cloghan who produce their own beef and have business making soups and pesto\'s will be represented by Sean and Orla Clancy.
The second evening in Rooskey on the 16th September @ 7pm will include local farmers from the region, with Danny Kilcullen speaking on the area of organic beef production, Des Crinion from Slane, Co. Meath on Organic Sheep’s milk ice cream and the Kearns Organic Growers, who have a local horticultural unit at Rooskey. John Brennan from Leitrim Organic farmers Co-Operative spoke about the role of the Co Op locally. Niall Flynn the proprietor of the Shannon Key West hotel will outline his experiences working with local organic farmers and he is the first hotel to have converted his menus over entirely to organic beef, using the whole of the animal. The hotel procures 2 cattle every 3 weeks and it is hoped to extend this to lamb as well. Both events are kindly supported by the Western Development Commission who have been a key driver of the organic sector in the region for many years

The Organic Growers of Ireland in association with the National Organic Training Skillnet are hosting a farm walk on Dermot O'Mara's Sunny Meadow Farm in Portumna, Co Galway on Tuesday the 24th August at 7pm.
