OGI Farm Walk Wed 19th Aug

The Organic Growers of Ireland will host a farm walk on the farm of Dirk and Hella Flake, Aughinish, Kinvara, Co Galway on Wednesday the 19th August from 6-8pm
Dirk and Hella run a two hectare (five acre) horticultural holding with 1,000 square metres of protected crops and specialise in salad production on the edge of the Atllantic. Their seaside setting ensures frost free growth all year round but providing windbreak to cope with the Atlantic storms is an absolute necessity in their case.
Much of their outdoor broccoli, onions and salad crops are harvested by now but tunnels are full of Autumn crops such as cucumber, tomatoes, courgettes, fennel etc. This walk will be an interesting study in how well they cope with the elements in rugged conditions.
Directions:
From Kinvara take the Ballyvaughan Rd, continue for 2 miles and turn right at the signpost for Doorus. Continue for 1/2 mile to the Traveller's Inn and turn left. Continue a further 4 and 1/2 miles past the causeway into the village of Aughinish then turn left at the T junction. Dirk and Hella's farm is the last house on the right.
