A practical course designed for those wishing to start or expand small-scale egg production. It is run on an organic egg farm, and covers point-of-lay to end-of-lay.

• Expected egg numbers, feed usage, saleable eggs
• Point-of-lay pullets-breed & source, body-weight, disposal of end-of-lay hens
• Housing, equipment and lighting
• Grazing and stocking density
• Disease and behavioural problems
• Fixed and variable costs; record keeping
• Organic Regulations and Restrictions

Outcomes:

You will learn the theory behind organic egg production and the challenges and opportunities of small scale production. You will gain an understanding of breeds, housing and equipment by visiting actual units.
